Silk Textiles for Lighting, 2025

Monochrome paperwork used pencil and paint to subtract and abstract shape, pulling from a collection of images of repeated forms. Lifting from paperwork, I began to draw with silk and consider surface patterning. Colouring using natural dye derived from indigo, onion skins, oak gall and iron created earthy tones which I beaded and waxed onto. I carved thick wooden beads from my favourite windfallen tree and used this to juxtapose the delicacy of the silk and hand beading. This was the very beginning of my woodworking I suppose.
